Refundable beverage containers
How to dispose of deposit-return bottles and cans.
Eligible bottles and cans can carry a refundable deposit. The mark, container size, material and condition must match the rules of the local scheme.
Recommended route
Reverse vending machine, approved redemption centre or participating retailer for the applicable deposit system.
Before disposal
- Empty the container
- Keep the deposit mark and barcode readable
- Do not crush the container unless the local scheme explicitly permits it
- Check the jurisdiction profile before travelling
Avoid
Do not assume every bottle or can has a deposit, and do not leave rejected containers beside a return machine.
