What does PAP 20 mean?
PAP 20 is the packaging material code for corrugated fibreboard: the layered cardboard used for shipping boxes and transport packaging.
Complete answer
The answer
PAP 20 is a material-identification code, not a promise that every piece of corrugated cardboard can be recycled in every condition. Clean, dry cardboard is widely collected, while heavily food-soiled, waxed, laminated or otherwise contaminated material may need a different route.
If the box contains plastic windows, foam inserts, straps or other removable components, separate them when practical. Flattening boxes is often useful because it saves space, but the exact preparation rule depends on the local collection service.
What to do
- Look for the number 20 with PAP.
- Keep cardboard clean and dry.
- Remove non-cardboard contents and follow the local paper/cardboard rule.
